Integrated into the context’s terrain, the Mortuary House of Barrancos stands as a space of remembrance and memory. The project conveys a strong relationship between built form and nature, grounding visitors in the earth that surrounds them. Light acts as a core spiritual driver, guiding the journey of the visitors.
The material choices of the project enhance a dialogue between spirit and place, acting as devices to reflect the site’s culture and heritage. Spatial voids reveal vast views across the landscape, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior, between the material and immaterial realms.
