Built into the edge of an old gravel pit, the chapel acts as a place of spiritual encounter. Upon entry, visitors elevate themselves before entering the main chapel space, an act of equality and transcendence. The subtle material palette, comprising raw concrete and timber, not only reflects that of the surrounding context but draws visitors’ gaze outward into the natural world.

The purpose of a chapel seems simple, but its design interpretation is diverse. From the classic design language to the architectural avant-garde, people try to break out of the standardized everyday life and ask questions. Questions that cannot only be answered by the location and function alone, but rather by an individual examination of the idea of a ‘higher order’.” – Tom Lechner
